For over 40 years, Environmental Design, Inc has been widely recognized as the premier tree relocation contractor in the world. Since 2007 we have used our custom grow techniques to bring specimen trees to many significant projects.
EDI will work with the Landscape Architect or Project Manager to locate and harvest the requested species of trees, many times years in advance. We will grow and culture the trees, within a 50-mile radius of the project, to your specifications (desired species & size), and maintain them according to our arborist’s recommendations during construction of the project. We will box, transport, and install the trees at the project location once the construction site is ready for them. This allows for cost-effective and stress-free landscape projects by growing the trees years in advance, and growing them to the required specifications.

EDI is very happy to have Ray back to work and in Minnesota again helping out our Northern division!

Sadly, the client lost two very large bur oaks in her front and side yard recently, likely due to oak wilt and two-lined chestnut borer. We planted a 9” fall fiesta sugar maple as a replacement. The tree was too tall to be transported in the stocker, so we had to use the pod trailer. We will be planting an oak later this fall here as well. Welcome back Ray!

EDI was subcontracted for this project by Ostvig Tree Care. They removed a huge sugar maple a few months ago and contracted us to install a 8.5" diameter Autumn Blaze Maple from Max Tree Farm. This property is on the historic Lake of the Isles Parkway in Minneapolis, a very popular walking, jogging, & biking route along the lake. Constructing access up the steep hill was a challenging problem to solve, as well as navigating equipment and a 53' trailer through tight and historic neighborhood streets.

This Minnesota homeowner constructed a large raised bed garden near her guest house. EDI's Northern division planted two mature apple trees (honeycrisp & zestar) on the western edge of the garden. Tree selection was a long process and we worked closely with the client and orchard manager to choose the right trees. Note: You may notice one of the trunks appears to be leaning, but this is how the tree grew in the field. It was more important to have a well balanced canopy that was easy to tie up and transport, fit the space in the garden, and could be easily harvested by the client and her children.
