Kiawah:
Environmental Design’s relationship with the Kiawah Island Resort dates back to 2002. As developers built the Sanctuary resort we were tasked with transplanting 150 mature live oak trees on the property in order to create an entrance alley and to provide shade for the hotel. In 2003 we completed another tree transplanting project at Cassique, one of the many golf courses on Kiawah Island. Plans for the construction of a new resort hotel at West Beach in 2015 allowed us to provide input to ownership relative to the preservation of the existing live oak canopy on the building site. In 2018 we embarked on a tree transplanting program that saved all of the mature live oaks on the site. These trees have been strategically relocated on the site to allow for the hotel construction. Concurrent with this project we transplanted 4 mature live oaks on the Ocean Course, home of the 2021 PGA championship.
